Proper nutrition is essential for a child’s growth and development, tissue repair, energy
and immune system health. The King’s Keep food service staff works diligently to offer each
of our children nutritional snacks and lunches.
Monthly menus are available for parents’
reference. The menus are determined by following a 6-week meal rotation with daily
portions from each of the five main food groups: meat/protein, fruit, vegetable, dairy and
grain. We base this rotation plan on the Recommended Dietary Allowance that was developed
by the National Research Council and the Child Day Care Commission.
Each lunch includes at least four different food group components, and
snacks are made up of at least two food groups. Snacks are typically low in sugar and high
in nutritional value. We serve whole milk with lunches and with most fruity snacks.
Other snacks are accompanied by 100% apple juice. Food service staff makes food substitutions
for children with documented medical conditions, such as allergies or lactose intolerance.
While we value meal times as great opportunities for teaching our children eating skills
and table manners, we also recognize their importance as times to refuel their bodies
appropriately.
