Of all the topics of early childhood education, play is often the most misunderstood.
While some may view play as “only fun”, we value play as the cornerstone of learning.
We believe that children actually learn best through play.
When using all five of their senses, their emotions and their imaginations, children retain
the information that they gather about themselves and the world around them. Our curriculum
gives teachers the guidance necessary to help children grasp specific, weekly learning concepts.
The teaching of these concepts extends far beyond circle time or seatwork.
Teachers formulate centers throughout the classroom that reinforce the learning concepts
during play time. Then during play time, teachers circulate throughout the room asking
children questions about their learning concepts and explaining how they apply to their
pre-school world.
Block center offers a chance to reinforce color recognition, shape identification,
counting, sorting, sharing and a multitude of other valuable skills. Centers for art,
dramatic play, manipulatives, books and puzzles continue the endless opportunities for
children to solidify their understanding of important learning concepts.
Learning opportunities even follow children outside. King’s Keep provides playgrounds designed
for each specific age group. From gaining physical coordination to watching the root
systems of plants develop in our gardening boxes, children thoroughly enjoy the continual
process of learning through play.
